Make Your Own Kind Of Music | Sixty And Me

None of us know if we are here for just a single moment more or perhaps decades. What we do know is that we are not on this earth for very long, in the whole scheme of things.

To me, this knowledge makes life seem like a bit of an adventure. Every day could be my last, not in a mournful way, but an exciting one. I want to get the best I can from every hour of every day. I want to live life the way I choose.

Just Be Yourself

Several years ago, I decided to clear my mind of things that were of no use to me. Much of it was stuff I had hung on to for years, such as, “You can’t do that,” “You are not clever enough,” “ You should/shouldn’t do things this way or that way.” Well, I knew I wanted to do things my way.

One of the wonderful things about life is that we are all different. I believe this is something we should all embrace. Other people may have ideas and suggestions, and we may learn from their experiences. But ultimately, it is up to us how our life shapes up and how we live it. We are as unique as our fingerprints. :)

Let It Go

I believe that clearing your mind of things that are of no value to you makes space for things that are. Imagine a mind with lots of empty space to be filled with adventures, new experiences, enjoyment, fun, hope, peace, calm. No more guilt, fear, anxiety, shame. Just lots of things that align with who you are and make you happy. What would you fill your space with?

Waking Up

Each day I wake up grateful. The people in my life are people I want in there. Those who uplift me and bring me joy. My days are filled with things that make me happy… writing, walks on the beach, gardening, reading, listening to the birds singing, planning a little adventure.

As I age, I realise that most of the things I love are free. All those years of striving for a bigger house, newer car, designer clothes. How silly they all seem to me now! I truly am waking up. :)

Don’t Look for Perfection

I don’t think I have ever met anyone who thought life was easy. Including me. We all have our share of hard times, and sometimes they can seem impossible to endure. But we do endure them. We learn from them, grow from them, and hopefully become better people. No matter how tough things get, we come out the other side.

But just because life is not perfect, don’t let it blind you to all the beauty that is in it. I see it every day and the more you open your eyes to it, the more you see. It can be a fleeting moment, or a forever memory. One thing is for sure, I would rather my mind be filled with imperfect things that make me happy, than not have the experience at all. A friend I no longer see, a love affair that didn’t last, someone I have lost. It might have been painful, but I am grateful to have had them in my life.

My Music

So it may have taken me a little while (read decades!) to learn who I truly am and what I want in my life, but I am so glad I have. The notes might not always be perfect, but they are my notes. The tune may not be to everyone else’s taste, but it is to my taste.

I am finally making my own kind of music! :)

Changing My Mind Is Okay | Sixty And Me

I used to think changing my mind meant I’d made the wrong decision. Now I think it often means I know something I didn’t know when I made the decision. There was a time when I was much more inclined to stick with things. Once I’d decided something, especially if
